ნელი ალექსანდრეს ას. გაჩეჩილაძე  1955 წელს სკოლის დამთავრების შემდეგ ჩაირიცხა  გორის ნ.ბარათაშვილის სახ. სახელმწიფო პედაგოგიური ინსტიტუტის  ბიოლოგიის ფაკულტეტზე, რომელიც დაამთავრა 1960 წელს. 1962 წელს მუშაობა დაიწყო საქართველოს მეცნიერებათა აკადემიის ფიზიოლოგიის ინსტიტუტში ჯერ უფროსი ლაბორანტის, შწემდეგ კი უმცროს მეცნ.თანამშრომლის თანამდრბობაზე.   1975 წელს დაიცვა  საკანდიდატო დისერტაცია თემაზე „ჩონჩხის კუნთის სინთეზური აქტომიოზინის მექანო-ქიმია“.

1986 წლიდან ფიზიოლოგიის ინსტიტუტის ბიოფიზიკის სექტორის ბაზაზე მოლეკულური ბიოლოგიისა და ბიოლოგიური ფიზიკის ინსტიტუტის ჩამოყალიბების შემდეგ მუშაობდა უფროს მეცნ.თანამშრომლის  თანამდებობაზე. 2010 წლიდან რამოდენიმე ინსტიტუტის ბაზაზე ექსპერიმენტული ბიომედიცინის ცენტრის ჩამოალიბების შემდეგ დღემდე მუშაობს ცენტრის ბიოფიზიკის ლაბორატორიაში ჯერ უფროს მეცნ.თანამშრომლის, 2017 წლიდან კი მთავარ მეცნ.თანამშრომლის პოზიციაზე.

ნელი გაჩეჩილაძის სამეცნიერო ინტერესების სფეროს წარმოადგენს კუნთის შეკუმშვაში მონაწილე  ცილების (მიოზინი, აქტინი, აქტომიოზინი) ფიზიკო ქიმიური თვისებების შესწავლა. ამჟამად, იგი იკვლევს შეკუმშვის პროცესში მონაწილე ე.წ გიგანტური ცილების (ტიტინი,სმიტინი) ფიზიკო ქიმიური თვისებებს, როგორც ნატივურ , ასევე ამილოიდურ მდგომარეობაში გადასვლისას ( in vitro).
